Do you love old windows?

March 13, 2009

I admit, I love the old windows on my house.

Well, maybe not so much where they had been painted shut. And definitely not the places where counterweights had been removed and replaced with insulation. But I love the ability to simply open a window and enjoy the night air or a morning breeze. We’re surely just days away from that sort of thing now, right?

I like the way my original windows look, and the most rewarding home project I’ve done was restoring the woodwork and windows in my living room. That was a couple years ago, and now I’m ready to tackle the dining room.

There was a great little article about windows in Preservation Magazine this month. It was about old windows and how “green” they are. Read it here: http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2009/march-april/ma09window.html. You’ll be armed with some good info the next time a door-to-door window salesman rings your doorbell.
