Girl Scout Troop 20067 thanks Southwood Park neighbors

November 16, 2009

100_8104On Saturday, October 31, Girl Scout Troop #20067 dressed in their Halloween costumes and went trick-or-treating for non-perishable food items to donate to the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen and the First Christian Food Pantry.  They collected items from noon to 2:00 p.m., covering about 9 blocks in the Southwood Park neighborhood.  Neighbors were notified of this food drive by flyers which were passed out the week of the event.  The neighbors were very generous and the troop collected 315 non-perishable food items, a $5 donation to purchase additional food items, and a frozen turkey for the soup kitchen.  There were also many kind notes and thanks to the girls for their efforts to help those less fortunate.  God graciously provided awesome weather and generous hearts.  The director of the First Christian Food Pantry came to the troop meeting on Tuesday to accept the donations.  The girls loaded up his car with 18 bags of food items.  The St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen donations will be delivered the following Saturday.

The Girl Scout troop would like to give a BIG THANK YOU for all of the generous donations received from the Southwood Park neighbors.
