Do Some Realtors Need Lessons on How to Read a Map? — Opinion

June 23, 2013

Maybe you’ve noticed it, too.  Every week the weekend newspaper divides Open House listings by geographic quadrant: northeast, southeast, northwest, and southwest.  But nearly every week, some Realtors list homes in the wrong quadrant.

Calhoun Street divides east and west; the river downtown Imagedivides north and south – and it goes onward from there…

Sure, mistakes and misprints happen.  But some Realtors must really get confused about this.  Are they transplants from elsewhere?  Or is the perception of someone who lives in La Cabreah or Covington Dells that everything south of Glenbrook is “south” and everything east Jefferson Pointe is “east”?  I’m sure more experienced  and neighborhood Realtors get frustrated with these sorts of mistakes.

Today (6/23) there is an Open House at 4714 Arlington.  Lovely home!  Don’t go looking for it on the southeast side of town.  All of Southwood Park is in the southwest quadrant of town, thank you.

Other goofs in today’s paper:

  • 2401 S Harrison is SW, not SE (by a block… we’ll cut you some slack);
  • 209 N Seminole Circle is SW, not NE (okay, that one has a tricky name… but don’t you know where the house is?);
  • 923 Vance is NE, not SE;
  • 1235 W Berry is SW, not SE (they did not just type this in as “West” Berry and “West” Central… hello!?)

    Some realtors purposely do not show families houses on this side of town; only in the Homestead or Carroll area….ridiculous!

    Wow. That’s kind of sad.

    I used to live on No. Seminole. It was an east-west street on the south side of town. Kinda weird, but any native of the south side knows that. I’m right with you, Steve. This has been going on for over thirty years now, and I am sick of it. Good blog!
